Mr. Vaught takes stock of the increasing damage to the train and tells the security crew to be ready to stop again shortly. Tolliver awakes a different man than the one he was before departing, but can’t quite hold himself together. Wickless loses face after terribly misjudging a situation, and Gato teaches a new Imago just where he stands in the pecking order.

  • HLC – “Barbarian” 1:54:48
This episode of the Westside Fairytales horror and dark fiction podcast’s Horror and Lit Club covers the 2022 horror film Barbarian, a review that took me so long to do because I love that movie that I had to cut the other thing I was going to talk about, the recent adaptation of Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman." In chapter 5 of the Westside Fairytales horror and dark fiction podcast’s story Sin Carriers, the Pinkerton ambush is underway! Our travelers are spread out and outnumbered, with a bounty on their heads. But it’s clear the fight has just begun, as Pinkerton heads are already exploding, rolling, and flying as the mysterious Gato joins the fray.

As the Pinkertons try to take the train, Su and Ducky are put into an awkward — and deadly — position. Moira feels a sudden, irresistible call during the chaos, and it may be left up to Vasily to protect her from both the Pinkertons, and herself. Meanwhile, Mildover helps Elam put his new training to use, and Tolliver finds his already strained relationship pushed past the breaking point.

  • HLC – “The Black Phone” and “The Hollow Places” by T. Kingfisher 1:45:21
On this episode of the Westside Fairytales horror and dark fiction podcast’s Horror and Lit Club, I do a massive review of "The Black Phone," starring Ethan Hawke. It's based on a short story by Joe Hill, and, well, I guess you can say that's fairly obvious. I also talk a bit about "The Hollow Places," a pretty decent eldritch horror novel from T. Kingfisher. • Sin Carriers 3 – Introductions 1:14:00
A team of misfits embarks safely, heading east. With nothing but time on their hands, our disparate cast makes their introductions, both to us, and to each other. Some of these first meetings are friendly, others awkward, and at least one close to deadly. The shadow of the mysterious Rider looms tall over our travelers, and it's no great reach to believe the Pinkertons have yet to abandon their chase.

Greater dangers still lay ahead, and before the crew of this train arrive at their first stop, one will be left terribly maimed. But who? You may find the answer to this question and more in episode three of the Westside Fairytales horror and dark fiction podcast’s story Sin Carriers, Introductions!

  • HLC – “Vivarium” and “Wrong Turn” 1:52:01
On this episode of the Westside Fairytales horror and dark fiction podcast’s Horror and Lit Club, we talk at length about two movies of dubious quality: the absolute relic of 2000s horror, “Wrong Turn,” and an extremely dull modern cosmic horror thriller called “Vivarium.” The Horror and Lit Club episodes are discussions and reviews that are separate from the regular fiction episodes. • Sin Carriers 2 – Departure 1:13:54
We’re introduced to the rest of our party as they embark on a train ride toward bloodshed, misery, and horror! Knife-slingers, thieves on the lam, and, most frightening of all, a Catholic priest! Will these dangerous strangers make it to their destination without bloodshed? Just what sort of baggage are they bringing with them? And what mysteries lay in the wood? • HLC – Tyler got COVID, “The Exorcist” as read by William Peter Blatty, and “Stalker” 1:38:45
I ain't dead, goddammit. This month's episode of the Westside Fairytales horror and dark fiction podcast’s Horror and Lit Club features yours truly talking about contracting and fighting off COVID; the worst audiobook I've ever listened to (and still haven't finished), “The Exorcist” by William Peter Blatty; and one of the best movies I've ever seen, “Stalker.” Thank you again to everybody who sent me well wishes while I was convalescing.
