Hi folks,

No doubt you’ll have seen across the entertainment spectrum that the current global situation is proving difficult for making things, particularly shows that often rely on a studio environment. Unfortunately, Rusty Quill is not immune to these forces. We were hopeful that we would be able to get through this without interruption to any of our shows, but this no longer the case. Especially as parts of our contingency planning have been set back, such as by postal delays in getting equipment to people. In order to ensure that production doesn’t get too tight, that we don’t risk pushing people to burnout, and that shows remain high quality, we have made some difficult decisions.

Hi everyone,

Last Sunday evening, a member of the Rusty Quill crew, Mike LeBeau, posted a series of tweets on his personal social media that included opinions on the current racial tensions in the USA and used a highly inappropriate and inflammatory hashtag.

I’d like to make it clear that Rusty Quill does not endorse or condone what was said. Having spoken to Mike at length, we believe that his statements were completely uninformed and came from a place of ignorance, not one of malice or hatred. Despite his best intentions, they displayed poor judgement and a lack of self-awareness. However, Mike’s track record from working with us over the last four years shows this is an isolated instance. Mike understands that what he did caused upset, and has already begun taking steps to make amends. It was a bad mistake that we feel can become a teaching moment

Black Lives Matter.

Something so fundamental shouldn’t be in doubt. And yet, centuries of structural inequality, cultural devaluation and aggressions have consistently shown that our society does not value Black lives. The contributions of people of colour get downplayed and their ability to lead peaceful lives is continually denied.

The current power structures cause pain and suffering, as seen with the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and many others at the hands of the police in the US. Similarly, in the UK, black people are disproportionately more likely to have violence used against them by the police and more likely to die in police custody.

As we approach April and the return of The Magnus Archives for its final season, we have one last order of business for the season break, and that’s to announce the winning entries in this year’s horror short story writing competition, Rusty Fears 3: Fearsome!

This year we asked you for your takes on one of three themes:

  1. Let It Out
  2. One Last Time
  3. The Awful Machine

And these certainly sparked your creative imaginations. Thanks to everyone who submitted stories and spread the word. We received 195 valid entries, which far exceeds any of our other competition responses to date! Quality was extremely high, and narrowing these down to any kind of list was very difficult. But from these we managed to get down to a longlist of 32, from which the judging panel deliberated and after much consideration selected a pair of winners.

Hey folks,

Some important news here, regarding the state of the Rusty Quill Patreon.

As of Monday 9th March Friday 13th March 2020, we will be closing the list for further name shout-outs at the beginning of our shows.

Unfortunately we’ve got to the point where – and it feels strange to be writing this – we’ve picked up up way more support than we ever thought we were going to. Your amazing generosity & support has taken us to reaches we weren’t expecting. BUT, we know we’ve got a huge backlog of names still to read out (including a slew of missed names from early on), especially on The Magnus Archives, which is – being completely honest – where we expect the bulk of our supporters will want to hear their name read.

We have recently published an easy reference document to help give a little more guidance to those seeking to make fan works, fancasts and other pieces of derivative media under our Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International Licence.

We support our fans and encourage their work, art and expression. (Indeed our upcoming Instagram launch seeks to better celebrate and create a repository for amazing fan art in picture and film but more on that soon).

After the rousing success of the previous two installments of our Rusty Fears horror short story writing competition, it’s back again to find some of the best new stories in the genre to entertain us and your fellow fans. And seeing how well the theme helped to focus thoughts last time around, we’re expanding things a little. This year, we would like to read your tales on one of the following themes, chosen by various folks at Rusty Towers:
